Message: "You Must Rule Over It"
Minister: Christine Lee
Location: Gratia Community Church, Sioux Falls, SD
Passages: Gen 4:1-12, Rom 7:21-23, Jonah 4:1-4, Heb 11:4, Rom 12:1-2 and Mat 20:10-15.
There is an important passage in Genesis chapter 4 about the first known children of Adam and Eve. In the process of time these two children Cain and Abel brought a sacrifice to the LORD. However, God was pleased with Abel's and not with Cain's. As a result, Cain got angry and killed Abel. Before Cain killed Abel God told him sin was lying at his door, but he must rule over it. If Cain took the warning of the Lord, the murder could have been prevented.
Christine taught that all people, even those who are saved, have this root of sin, this flaw in their nature to become jealous and envious and angry at God and other people if they do not receive something they want. They have the wrong feelings and emotions when they see others who are loved or blessed by God. Christians go through the process of sanctification after they are saved. All their lives they need to manage and control these fallen emotions so as not to get angry but be thankful someone in their life is blessed and learn from that. They need to distinguish and separate their bad thoughts from the good ones. This is what Cain could have done, but didn't do. Jonah was a good example when he got angry that God saved Nineveh.
After the service, the members present discussed how this message related to them. They gave examples of how this has happened in their own families even.
