Message: "Take Hold of the Hope and be Greatly Encouraged"
Minister: Christine Lee
Location: Gratia Community Church, Sioux Falls, SD
Passages: Hebrews 6 and Hebrews 10:23-39.
This chapter of Hebrews is an admonition and a warning that believers need to mature in the doctrines of the Bible and not always linger on the elementary surface principles. They are told to get serious and mature. Then there is a dire warning to those who fall away from the faith.
The message warned the members never to lose their fear of God and know that betrayal of faith and love will end with judgment. Many fall away from the Lord because the path is hard. Verses 4 through 6 say it is impossible for those who have tasted of the gospel, if they fall away from or reject it, to be renewed again unto repentance. However, many who make a profession of faith have no discipline and are lazy. So they end up drifting away and being lost. The believers must not be lazy and must press on to maturity in their Christian walk. Then they will bear fruit and not be useless and dead because they bear thorns and thistles. Those that despise the grace of God like those that despised the Law will not be able to be saved. Like chapter 2 verse 3 says, "How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation".
After the service, the members present discussed how this message related to them. They took this warning with great fear and trembling, recognizing their need for humility before the great Creator of the universe, the great Holy God. He and his graceful gift are not to be taken lightly.
